Glass Ceiling - HR Glossary
The glass ceiling is a metaphorical barrier that reflects the unseen but significant barriers that prohibit some individuals, especially from underrepresented groups, from rising to higher positions within an organization, notably in human resources and the workplace.
Example
A practical illustration of the glass ceiling in human resources is when highly qualified women are routinely passed over for promotions to senior HR posts, despite their talents and experience, whilst their male colleagues with equal qualifications advance more quickly up the corporate ladder.
