The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) is a federal legislation in the United States that bans employers from discriminating against employees because of pregnancy, delivery, or associated medical conditions. The PDA is an addendum to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that seeks to protect pregnant workers from unfair treatment and to promote equitable employment opportunities.

Example

A violation of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act would be an employer refusing to accept a qualified candidate because she is pregnant or terminating an employee's job after learning of her pregnancy. Another example would be denying a pregnant employee the same training or promotions that other employees receive.
