The Fair Labor rules Act (FLSA) is a federal legislation that defines minimum wage, overtime compensation, and other employment rules for United States workers. The law also restricts child labor and imposes recordkeeping obligations on companies.

Example

The FLSA requires businesses to pay non-exempt employees at least the federal minimum wage for all hours worked and to pay overtime at 1.5 times the employee's usual rate of pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek.
