A disciplinary procedure is a planned and formal process that corporations use to resolve employee misbehavior or performance difficulties. It describes the methods that will be followed to investigate, address, and resolve disciplinary issues in a fair and uniform way. The basic goal of a disciplinary procedure is to ensure that workers understand the organization's standards, face appropriate repercussions for their conduct, and have the opportunity to modify their behavior or performance.

Example

XYZ Company has a disciplinary mechanism in place to deal with employee misbehavior. If an employee is accused of breaking corporate policies, an inquiry is carried out to gather evidence and examine the circumstances. If the inquiry confirms the claims, a disciplinary meeting with the employee is planned to address the matter. Based on the findings and the employee's reaction, the company may issue a verbal warning, a written warning, or other suitable disciplinary action. If the employee believes the decision was unjust, he or she may appeal it.
